‘Jazzy Jeff’ Townes was born in West Philidelphia into a musical family and started spinning tunes at the very early age of 10. To think he was learning a relatively new and raw skill from such a young age goes some way to explain his immense talent. He’s best known for teaming up with the ‘Fresh Prince’, Will Smith, in  1986 after Will guest MCed for Jazzy at one of his regular gigs in Philly. That year he also won the DMC championship having rarely battled on the decks before.

Due to his long reign over the decks his skills and knowledge of music are almost unmatched. He decided to give back to his community in 1990 with his ‘Touch of Jazz’ studio and continued his domination of the rap charts along with the ‘Fresh Prince’. The production side really took off with his work on Jill Scott’s debut album, Who is Jill Scott?

Best known for his hip-hop background he has always played a variety of music favouring quality over specific sounds and trends (check out his mixtape for Defected…Jazzy Jeff In The House). He has toured all over the world from the US to Europe and Asia sharing his talents and ‘Da love of da game’. This is what djing is about, shed your ego and share your energy and it will multiply.
